The thinking, not the output.

Five habits I hold onto to keep my judgment mine — now that AI writes the code and the summaries.AI

In my fourth interview, I stopped trying to write the perfect query. It turned out they'd already assumed I could. What they were actually listening for was everything that happens before the query — whether I asked who the number was for, whether I checked if the data could even be trusted, whether I said out loud what I'd do differently with more time. AI has made that shift permanent. When a machine can produce a fluent answer in seconds, the value isn't in producing the answer — it's in knowing whether to trust it.

01

Verify, don't consume

A fluent answer from an AI isn't my knowledge. It's a draft I haven't checked yet. So I treat every generated output the way I'd treat a model that scored suspiciously well — I go looking for what's wrong. The assumptions it made quietly, the logic it skipped, the edge case it never considered. The machine is the fast first pass; I'm the auditor of last resort. If I can't explain why the answer is right, I don't have the answer — I just have access to it.AI의 매끄러운 답은 내 지식이 아니다.

02

Ask the question the AI can'tAI

AI is extraordinary at retrieval and pattern-matching — the how. It's much weaker at the questions that decide whether the work matters at all: What's the real problem here? Why does anyone care? So what if we're right? Those are mine to own. A model will happily optimize a metric no one should be chasing. Defining the right question — and being willing to say the question itself is wrong — is the part that doesn't automate.AI는 검색과 패턴 매칭 — 어떻게 — 에 비범하다.

03

Keep the muscle

Here's the trap: the better AI gets, the less I practice the fundamentals that let me judge it. So I build some things from scratch on purpose. I read the hard paper slowly instead of the summary. Not out of nostalgia — because the day I can't tell a good AI answer from a plausible-but-wrong one is the day I've outsourced the only thing I was actually for. The slowness is deliberate, and it's an investment.

04

Don't get steered

Every AI has a grain to it — the shape its training and its prompts nudge you toward. Templates make you fill in their blanks; a confident summary makes you stop questioning. I try to stay aware of the current I'm being carried by. Whose framing is this? What did the tool quietly leave out? The real danger isn't a wrong answer I can catch — it's a subtly narrowed set of questions I never think to ask, because the tool never surfaced them.

05

Spend the saved time on harder problems

AI hands me hours back. The temptation is to finish faster and call it a day. I'd rather spend those hours going deeper — the problem I was avoiding because it was too hard, the analysis I never had time to do properly. If automation just makes me produce more shallow work, I've lost. If it lets me take on questions I couldn't have touched before, that's the whole point.AI는 시간을 돌려준다.

The thread through all five: AI should amplify judgment, not replace it. The moment I confuse accessing an answer with understanding it, I've become a passive consumer of my own work. These habits are how I stay the author.
